Oregon’s Willamette Valley is regarded as a premiere destination for Pinot Noir production, but the Beaver State offers much more, as our latest Tasting Highlights shows. This lineup includes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and more from Willamette Valley as well as Applegate Valley in Oregon’s southern reaches, with scores up to 92 points and prices as low as $20.
Starting farther south, Applegate Valley is a subregion within the larger Rogue Valley, just north of the California border, where it's surrounded by the Siskiyou Mountains. The area benefits from a warm, Mediterranean climate, allowing a range of grapes to flourish, including Rhône varieties. Troon’s Syrah-based Druid’s Red was aged in neutral French oak barrels and concrete, giving it a snappy profile with lively cherry, cinnamon and smoke notes. Similarly, the sleek and graceful Grenache from Quady North uses a mix of whole berries and clusters, and it was aged in neutral French oak. The reulting wine shows expressive raspberry, cherry and cinnamon notes.
This lineup also includes Stoller's Pinot Noir Dundee Hills Estate 2023, which is rich and structured with red fruit and spice notes. Read on to get our score and expert tasting note for this fantastic Oregon wine and seven others.
