The United States' wine industry shows its diversity in this week's Tasting Highlights. From white and red to rosé, each of these West Coast wines delivers very good to outstanding quality on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale—and they do so without straining the budget, as all the sections are priced at $30 or less.
The red grape varieties in this selection range from Cabernet to Merlot to Zinfandel (plus Pinot Noir made as a rosé), with Rhône grape varieties featuring in a few of the blends. A couple winery names that might not yet be familiar to red wine lovers are Newfound, which is based in Napa but uses grapes from multiple regions, and Top Source, which is based in Washington's Columbia Valley but owned by a winemaker with experience in the Rhône. This lineup also includes two other zesty Washington red blends that include Cabernet: DeLille's Métier and Sleight of Hand's The Spellbinder. For white wine lovers, there are two excellent California Chardonnays right around the $20 mark.
